We booked Danny O’ Brien and his guest speaker Karl Spain to do a workshop with our Transition year students and it was a fantastic experience. They are easy to work with, flexible, and very down-to-earth.
They provided a 2 hour workshop on public speaking and overcoming anxiety in a very fun and engaging way. The students thoroughly enjoyed it and I would definitely recommend it as a fantastic activity for any year group!

We booked Garden Gigs into our school to run comedy workshops with a group of Transition Year Students. They visited us 4 times over a 2 week period and worked on improving self-confidence, public speaking, managing nerves, and writing. The workshops then culminated in a live showcase for their peers.
The students’ confidence grew exponentially over the two weeks and that was truly amazing to see. I have never witnessed a workshop to be as effective in this regard.
The students absolutely loved having the lads here and were very sad for the workshops to come to an end. They benefitted greatly from participating in the workshops as well as having a whole lot of fun. I would highly recommend the Garden Gigs Ireland Comedy & Confidence Building Workshops to schools.

What we do:

Garden Gigs Ireland performed a series of outdoor shows and made a ‘Lockdown Comedy Special’ (which aired on Virgin Media Television in August of 2020) in their local community to various council flat complexes in Irishtown and Ringsend which sparked a huge interest in comedy for younger people within these communities. In conjunction with The Ringsend and Irishtown Community Centre they set up a five-week comedy workshop (RICC Comedy Club) for young people aged 12-14 years. This culminated in a live comedy performance for the young people’s parents, youth workers, peers as well as the local Garda sergeant that was a resounding success.

The comedy workshop was visited by TD Mary Lou McDonald who gave huge praise to the project and for the innovation in helping young people with their communication, confidence, social skills, and personal development. Both Danny and his guest speakers are now facilitating safe, socially distanced workshops in youth services around Ireland for various age groups (from ages 5 to 21) with numerous diverse youth services around the country as far as 2021. Please get in touch below soon if you’d like to book one of their workshops for your school, youth service, or community youth group.

What the Youth Services Are Saying!

The comedy workshops facilitated by Danny and Damo were extremely well organised and planned. The program was designed to compliment the young peoples own life experience, and extract humour from that. They used games and group work to put the group at ease. It was brilliant to see the group progress over the weeks. The stand up show they organised at the end of week five was both youth led and really professional. I would highly recommended this program for any youth or community groups. It helps to build confidence while also challenging the young people to express themselves and use their voice. The feedback from the group and parents was very positive.

Bren, Youth Project Worker, RICC

"We Have just finished a series of workshop with Garden Gigs and we have had a laugh and a half! Danny & Damo brought great energy and enthusiasm each week to our project! The lads are skilled at engaging the young people and empowering them to perform in front of their peers. These workshops are a great personal development tool for working with young people. "

Aoife, Youth Worker, Solas Project

We were thrilled to have Damo and Danny involved in our programme. The lads brought great energy and expertise along with them. The young people benefited greatly from the programme, it gave them new confidence in themselves and on stage which we believe will really stand to them in the future.

Aoibhinn, Youth Worker, RICC

We had an absolutely super four week workshop from Garden Gig’s Ireland this July/August, the guest speakers and comics were such a great addition to the course and they really helped our young people to find their voice on stage. The show at the end of the four weeks was hosted by the facilitators Danny and Damian was one of the highlights of the year in RICC so far. We were so proud at how far our groups had come along over the four weeks. We also got Danny and Damian to run two weeks of summer workshops for our younger groups as well which was a resounding success, we can’t wait to have them back workshopping more groups for us again soon, they are absolutely brilliant.

“Danny and Damian did a great job facilitating workshops and running a gig. They were well able to work with each young person in the group and they understood how to approach each of them. The group gained the confidence and skills to perform in front of a crowd with their own original material”

“The workshops have had a transformational effect by empowering young people, giving them confidence through having a laugh and not being afraid to try something new and make mistakes. Highly recommend for a youth work setting!”
